Bitter Melon

(Momordica charantia)



    *herbaceous tendrill-bearing vine grows to 5 m.
    *alternate leaves for 4-12 cm across, with 3-7 deeply                 separated lobes
    * bears separate yellow male and female flowers.
    *Fruits are warty looking exterior and oblong shape.
    *Seeds are
             - white when unripe
             - red when ripe
  
     Bitter melon comes in variety shapes.

    * In Chinese phenotype is 20 to 30 cm long,
             -oblong with blunty tapering ends and pale green in color.
    * In India has norrower shape with pointed ends.
