Separate cloves. Garlic cloves are planted, not the entire head. So after purchasing garlic, separate it into cloves.
Dig 2 inch holes. Find a space that will allow you to leave 6 inches between garlic cloves, as well as an area that receives a significant amount of sun during the day. Now that you've found a space, dig 2 inch holes.
Plant your garlic! Drop the cloves into the holes and cover them up.
Trim flower stalks. When the flower stalks begin to appear a few months down the line, trim them. Otherwise full heads of garlic will not grow.
Harvest your garlic! When the leaves turn a brownish yellow, your garlic is ready to harvest. Uproot it from the ground and enjoy in sauce, stews and Sicilian cuisine!
